Edo community leader arrested for alleged murder

Ex- Chairman of outlawed Community Development Association (CDA) in Edo state, Mr. Monday Edegbe has been arrested for alleged involvement in the murder of a female farmer, Mrs. Mercy Nosakhare Iserhienrhien.

The victim was allegedly murdered on May 4, 2019 at Uniaro community in Ovia North East local government area of the state.

Blueprint gathered that the police have launched manhunt for 10 other suspected thugs (now at large).

An official of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) unit in Edo state confirmed the suspect’s arrest and detention to newsmen on Monday.

The policeman who craved for anonymity said: “He (Edegbe) is in our custody”,  but declined to give further details as he has no authorization.

According to him, “we are handling the case. We are not under the State Police Command, but under Force Headquarters in Abuja.

“Only the Force PRO at the headquarters can talk to the press on the matter,” he said.

Eldest daughter of the victim, Mrs. Iris Nosakhare Aderemi, said her mother’s death would have been averted if the police had responded promptly to the advice of concerned elders of the Community to check the excesses of the accused.

Mrs. Aderemi, alleged that ever since the state government with the support of Oba of Benin outlawed CDA’s, the Community has not known  peace.
