Durosinmi, has arrested a suspected fake medical doctor, Tayo Shakirudeen, operating a hospital with Obafemi Awolowo University’s fake medical certificate in Lagos state.

The 37-year old Shakirudeen, who is the managing director of Skylink Medical Centre at Ako-Okuta Block Industry behind Uncle Bayus Schools, Elepe-Ikorodu, Lagos, was arrested based on intelligence gathered by the police through members of Elepe community concerning his activities in the area.

The Zone 2 Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ayuba Umma,  confirmed that the suspect was in custody undergoing interrogation over his alleged conduct.

According to her, a team of detectives led by the officer in-charge Zonal Anti-Piracy Zone 2 Command, SP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi, swung into action; arrested the suspect, conducted a search and recovered two suspected forged certificates of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun state and Nigeria Medical and Dental Council.

“The suspect confessed to electronic production of the certificates as he neither obtained any degree from the University nor certificate from the Medical Council as his real qualification is SSCE, ” she said.

Ayuba stated further that part of his confession was that he has a total of 6 staff, 2 of which are trained nurses while 4 are amateurs.

“He worked as Nursing Assistant at Fabo Medical Centre, Majidun area of Lagos, before establishing his own hospital and he has successfully carried out 3 (2 Cesarean session and 1 appendicitis) surgeries during his 3 years of unlawful practice as a medical practitioner while investigation so far revealed that he has been operating the hospital without a qualified/certified medical practitioner.”

However, the AIG urged members of the public not to hesitate in giving information to the police whenever they suspect any unlawful practice of any kind.

Meanwhile, the zonal command is working with the Ministry of Health in Lagos and Ogun states to rid the zone of such practitioners.
