COVID-19: Minister put corps members on high alert

The Minister of State for FCT, Dr Ramatu Tijjaniyya Aliyu has warned 2020 Batch ‘A’ Corps members to observe high degree of hygiene to prevent contacting or spreading the dreaded Coronavirus.

Aliyu, however, assured corps members that their welfare and security is the utmost priority and that FCTA would not trivialise the issue.

The minister gave the warning in her opening remarks at the swearing-in ceremony of the orientation course for the 2020 Batch ‘A’ stream 1 corps members in Abuja.

Aliyu, who was represented by chairman, NYSC FCT Governing Board, Mrs Dilichukwu Onyedinma, stressed that, all inclusive, sustainable synergy and collaborations with relevant security agencies have put in place for a coordinated, regimented and regulated regime, against a typical campus setting that is merely animalistic.

“I charge you, therefore, to be apt in acclimatising and swift in assimilating the latest norms and values on camp which as it were, are to serve as the guiding principles, all through your service,” she said.

Speaking further, Aliyu commended the behaviour and composure of corps members the few days they reported in camp.

“I must commend your overall behaviour and comportments these few days you have been on camp as reported.

“The oath of allegiance you have all subscribed to this morning, clearly shows you are ready, willing and able to let go unconditionally, that peculiar campus social maxim of ‘You are on Your Own’ that left your actions and inactions completely within your interpretations and executions, to a more promising stand of abiding consistently by the ideals of the NYSC scheme,” she said.

The NYSC, FCT Coordinator, Haijya Walida Isa said  a total number of 3,323 corps members were registered on camp comprising 1,038 males and 1,285 females.
