Kaduna government holds integrated PHC services, MUAC screening in Tudun Biri

Kaduna state government has kicked-off Integrated Primary Health Care Service and Health Camp in Tudun Biri and 11 other wards in Igabi Local Government Area, as part of efforts to provide essential health services to the communities.

The programme, which was officially flagged off by the Executive Secretary, Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Bello Jamoh, represented by the Director of Family and Community Health Services, Hajiya Nafisa Isa Musa, was aimed at alleviating the condition of the people of Tudun Biri following the December 2023 bomb blast that led to the death of over 80 residents, while leaving many others injured.

Speaking on the services to be offered by the programme, the Executive Secretary, Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Bello Jamoh, said the Health Camp offers a wide range of critical services, including nutrition counseling, immunizations, Mid Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) screening, Vitamin A supplementation, Tuberculosis (TB) screening, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) screening, among others.

“The Health Camp flagged off in Tudun Biri achieved substantial success, with women and children from within the Tudun Biri community and neighbouring villages turning out in large numbers to avail themselves of the vital services. The impressive turnout is largely due to the extensive mass mobilisation efforts carried out by the state government ahead of the initiative, underscoring the community’s readiness and enthusiasm to engage with healthcare initiatives.

“The impactful event was spearheaded by the Kaduna State Primary Health Care Board in collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and other partners like Accelerating Nutrition Rate in Nigeria (ANRIN) represented by Dr Zainab Idris Kwaru, Alive and Thrive represented by Mrs Sarah Didi Kwasu, Civil Society Scaling-Up Nutrition CS-SUNN Nigeria represented by Jessica Bartholomew.

“The UNICEF team led by the Chief of Field Office, Dr Gerida Birukila played a pivotal role in the success of the programme as their collective expertise and dedication was quite crucial in delivering comprehensive health services to the people of the various communities.

“Other members of the UNICEF team are UNICEF Nutrition Specialist; Mrs. Chinwe Ezeife, UNICEF Health Specialists; Dr. Idris Baba; Dr. Sule Meleh; Dr. Hadiza Aliyu Iyal, UNICEF Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Specialist; Theresa Pamma and UNICEF Social Behavioral Change Specialist, Ibrahim Tsado Mohammed,” he said.
