AYCF condemns Plateau killings, mourns Akeredolu, Na’abba

Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has condemned the killing of innocent people in Barkin Ladi and Bokkos local governments of Plateau state on the eve of Christmas, describing it as unwarranted, barbaric, unacceptable and strongly condemnable.

AYCF in a statement issued by it’s President General, Alhaji Yerima Shettima on Thursday, also expressed sadness over the deaths of Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar Na’abba.

Shettima lamented that the attack and killing of over 100 people in Plateau state communities, while scores were injured and over 200 houses burnt is one to many and must not be swept under the carpet. He stressed that perpetrators must immediately be fished out by security agencies and be made to face the full wrath of the law.

AYCF noted that the recurring cases of attacks where innocent people are killed with reckless abandon must not be allowed to continue, noting that only weeks back over 100 persons where also killed in a mistaken bomb mishap in Tudun Biri community, Igabi local government of Kaduna state.

He therefore called on the government at all levels and security agencies to do whatever it takes to ensure that perpetrators of this heinous crime are not allowed to go scot-free.

“Our hearts are with the people and government of Plateau state over this unacceptable recurrence of attacks leading to loss of lives and destruction of properties. We call on government and security agencies to do all within their powers to put a permanent end to all the unwarranted killings and above all ensure those perpetrating this dastardly acts and their sponsors are fished out and persecuted accordingly.

“While praying for the repose of the deceased and quick recovery for the injured, we also pray that God will grant their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he said.

Speaking on the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and Ghali Na’abba, former Speaker of House of Representatives, Alhaji Shettima also commiserated with the people and governments of Ondo and Kano states, the families, friends, and political associates of the deceased politicians, while praying that God should rest their souls in peace and comfort their families in this trying time.
