Anambra: NYSC embarks on tree planting to fight gully erosion

The National Youth Social Corps (NYSC), Anambra State office, Monday, embarked on tree planting to fight gully erosion and other environmental challenges confronting the camp.
The State Coordinator, NYSC, Mr Kehinde Aremu, who flagged off the tree planting at the state permanent orientation camp in Mbaukwu/Umuawulu, Awka South local government area, said the exercise was approved by the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen S. Ibrahim.

According to him, it would help to address the environmental degradation threatening the camp due to uncompleted landscaping of the environment.
He named about 100 different species of plants to be planted in the environment to include palm, Teak, Gmelaina, almond, sweet orange and other ornamental trees.

He, however, commended governor Willie Obiano for providing them with the permanent orientation camp and other facilities, even as he appealed  to the governor to urgently help them address the gully erosion and other environmental issues as it was a threat to their existence.
