Appraising Ahmed Aliyu Abdullahi’s stewardship

Many, especially those who are good in eye service, as it is traditionally called in Nigeria’s phraseology, may classify this article as one of their kind since the focal person is a politician, but far from it. Come to think of it, I am not into partisan politics. Though scholarly speaking, every human being is seen in the academic arena as a political animal, but my case is different because my main job is to objectively analyse local, national and international issues of human concern, irrespective of the characters involved or, the background of the issues.

It is on this backdrop that I decided to take a peep into the exemplary leadership of one of Nigeria’s finest politicians presently representing Musawa/Matazu federal constituency, Katsina state, at the Green Chamber of Nigeria’s National Assembly. He is Honourable Ahmed Aliyu Abdullahi, popular called The General. Like I said at the onset of this piece, as an academic at the Federal College of Education, Okene, Adavi local government area of Kogi state, my intention to write is to present a balanced reportage that Nigerians across board can easily consume and digest smoothly without complaint.

As a Nigerian, there are things I cry about silently, those I put in prayers, and those I discuss in group chats. However, there are very important issues like this analysis that I can no longer hide, because of their importance to the people. Though, I don’t want to bring in religion into this piece, but I can’t talk about Honourable Ahmed Abdulahi without making the Biblical reference in Proverb 29:2, which says that when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but if the wicked rules, the people mourn. Wickedness is evil.

However, my happiness is that in the midst of the turbulent and perilous times the global community is going through due to the wickedness of some leaders, there are leaders who still believe that they are greatly indebted to their followers; compassionate leaders who, regardless of the alarming human quest for money, fame and power, still find it a great privilege to use their position of authority to put smiles on the faces of their people, irrespective of political, ethnic, or religious affiliation.

These are leaders that can go the extra mile to ensure that their constituents feel the positive impact of governance either through human capacity building or community development. It is in this connection that the name Honourable Ahmed Aliyu Abdullahi (The General) keeps ringing in my mind! To say Aliyu Abdullahi is a righteous leader that is excellently using his position as the honourable member, representing Matazu/Musawa federal constituency in the House of Representatives to positively transform the lives of his constituents, is stating the obvious.

Lest I forget, as someone very familiar with the politics of Katsina state, even before Abdullahi ventured into politics, he overtly used his position to better the lives of his people. As an aide to Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina state, when Radda was the director general of SMEDAN during the President Muhammadu Buhari government, Ahmed Abdullahi channeled all his meagre resources to make sure that his people enjoy good governance. That’s why those conversant with his compassionate disposition were not surprised regarding his current landmark achievements as chairman, House Committee on Interior.

Unlike those who hardly make contributions on the floor of the House, Ahmed Abdullahi airs his views regarding any issue of importance on the floor of the House. This has in most cases impacted positively on the general well-being of Nigerians, which he doesn’t take for-granted. As House Committee Chairman on Interior, he is also leading by example by ensuring that all the heads of para-military agencies under the Federal Ministry of Interior adhere strictly to their establishment Acts. This ensures fairness, justice and equity especially during recruitment exercise in the Nigeria Correctional Services, Immigration, Civil Defense and Federal Fire Service which are under his legislative supervision. He also ensures that the budgets of the para-military agencies are passed into law in order to enable them perform their duties effectively.

One of the landmark achievements of Honourable Ahmed Abdullahi is the provision of necessary security gadgets for the vigilantes in Musawa/Matazu federal constituency to enable them provide adequate security for his people. This has gone a long way to curtail the high rate of insecurity unlike in the past when lives and properties were destroyed on daily basis. He also distributed food items to his constituents during Ramadan and even till date to cushion the current hardship in the country.

Others are; massive renovation of public schools, provision of solar street light, sinking of motorised boreholes across his constituency, road construction, rural electrification, provision of scholarship, building of mosque as well as giving local chiefs’ residence a face-lift. Unfortunately, space constraints will not allow a comprehensive analysis on when the righteous are on the throne, the people rejoice with Ahmed Abdulahi as a case study. So, let me pause here.
