World Bank appoints Nigeria’s Umar as ACReSAL national project coordinator

The World Bank in conjunction with the National Steering Committee of the Agro- Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (AcresalNigeria) has on behalf of the federal government approved the appointment of Mr. Abdulhamid Umar as ACReSAL’s national project coordinator.

 A statement issued by the personal assistant to the Minister of Environment on Media & ICT, Olusegun Shogbola, on Friday, indicated that the appointment “takes effect from February 2023.”

It read in part, “Mr. Umar is expected to provide overall project coordination and guidance, implementation monitoring and evaluation of the $700 million project on watershed management, land remediation & restoration and developing a community resilience program across the 19 participating states of northern Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.

“Until his appointment, Mr. Umar served as director of operations at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). He led the team that catapulted the digital ID enrolment figures from 7.2 million in 2017 to a figure well over 96 million records under his leadership.

“He was also involved in several multilateral financial/funding support projects in Nigeria like UNHCR-UN Women Enrollment Project; South Korea (KOICA) intervention on enrollment support team where he served as chairman.

“He actively participated in the project identification, preparation and implementation stages of the World Bank funded $433 million Nigerian ID4D Project.”
