Why we’ll honour the mighty and the lowly – TGNews

TGNews, a leading online platform with operational control base in Yola, Adamawa state, has adduced reasons for its decision to honour the mighty and lowly placed people alike on Saturday, January 6, 2024.

At a press briefing in Yola on Tuesday, the Chairman, Media Sub-Committee of the TGNews Merit and Productivity Award, Mohammed Ismail, said the awards are intended to encourage the mighty to do more for society and the lowly placed people to persist in dignity and continue to make the best of their opportunities.

He said, “The management of TGNews in fulfilment of one of its cardinal corporate social responsibilities deems it fit to acknowledge and reward excellence by different players and stakeholders of our great state who in one way or the other gave their robust contributions to the growth and development of the society.

“The award is meant to recognise and reward merit, excellence, talent, dedication and exceptional service delivery to encourage all members of the society to strive for excellence knowing that such feats will be acknowledged and rewarded.

“TGNews has placed so much value and relevance to the award given to the unsung heroes as a mark of their resilience and can-do spirit despite the inclement and indurate socio-economic turf of the Nigerian society. These are people who should have resigned to fate and resort to begging and embrace other demeaning ventures to survive, considering their disadvantaged conditions but instead took the gauntlet and channeled their energies to better themselves and the society in general.

“In a society where able bodied men resort to begging and crime to survive, the resilience of our unsung heroes must be highlighted and appreciated.”

He explained that the award which is the maiden edition of TGNEWS Merit and Productivity Award is classified into four distinct categories, namely, award for excellence in leadership, meritorious service award, award for dedication and quality service and unsung heroes award.

He said those to be conferred with the 2024 award of excellence in leadership are Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state; immediate-past Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; former Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow and the member representing Fufore/Song federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon.
