Man arrested for beating wife to coma in Ondo

A 56-year-old truck driver and ex-boxer, Moses Olapade, is cooling his heels in police custody in Ondo state, after beating his wife to coma, for refusing to hand over their Television remote control to him.

The incident occurred at No. 9, Odamo street, Oke-Aro Community in Akure South local government area of Ondo State.

It was  gathered that Olapade, a truck  driver who plies the Northern part of the country every forthnight returned home on the fateful day and wanted to watch a programme on the television when the incident happened.

He was said to have asked his 44-year-old wife, Atinuke Olapade, to hand over the TV remote control to him, but she declined.

The already frustrated Olapade, who was a Lagos State ex- boxer reportedly descended on his wife with several punches on her face.

It took the intervention of neighbours to rescue the woman from her husband after the children ran out screaming for help.

Reports had it that when the neighbours bust into the house to rescue the woman, they met her on the floor lying unconsciously and they quickly rushed her to the nearest hospital, while the husband was made to foot the hospital bill.

The matter was later reported to leaders in the community who called on men of the Nigeria Police Force and the truck driver was arrested.

When contacted on the matter, the police public relations officer Oluwafunmilayo Omisanya, said police are investigating into the matter.
