Former Super Eagles star, Tijani Babaginda, escapes death in fatal accident, brother dead


Indications emerged on Thursday evening that former Super Eagles winger and Atlanta ’96 Olympic Games gold medalist, Tijani Babangida, survived a ghastly motor accident.

Blueprint gathered that the accident occurred along Kaduna-Zaria highway 

Findings revealed that the former Ajax Amsterdam speed star was traveling with his wife and brother when the accident occurred along the Kaduna -Zaria highway.

He was said to be driving the vehicle when it crashed, Blueprint reports.

An eye witness told Blueprint that while the Nigerian international survived but sustained injuries, his brother Ibrahim Babangida Tijani died almost immediately, while the Tijani’s wife has been hospitalised at University of Zaria Teaching Hospital.

Confirming the incident, Emmanuel Babayaro, another Ex-International wrote via WhatsApp saying, “Comrades! Let us be in prayers for our president, Tijani Babangida who just had a ghastly motor accident along Kaduna-Zaria road. 

“Ibrahim Babangida his younger brother died on the spot from the accident while mr President and his family have been taken to the hospital. 

“May the soul of Ibrahim Babangida Rest In Peace with God, amen.”
