Zamfara drags 8 lawmakers to court over move to impeach speaker

Eight Zamfara state House of Assembly members were Thursday arraigned before court over their deliberation on insecurity and move to impeach the speaker.

The eight members earlier on February held emergency sitting where they unanimously suspended the speaker, Hon. Bilyaminu Moriki, over what they described as the resurgence of banditry in the state.

Blueprint reports that seven members appeared before the court during the sitting.

In an interview with newsmen shortly after the sitting, the counsel to one of the four defendants, Ibrahim Ali, said the court has no jurisdiction for hearing the case and he challenged the competency of the complaints.

However, the presiding judge, Rukubatu Aliyu Kanoma, after hearing both parties adjourned the case till 30th May for hearing.
