We’ll complete all constituency projects – Ekweremadu

Touched by speculations and aspersions in some quarters that there could be abandoned constituency projects in Enugu west, former deputy president of the senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, Wednesday said   all constituency projects initiated in his senatorial zone,  Enugu west senatorial district would be completed on schedule without leaving any unfinished.

Ekweremadu stated this while inspecting ongoing projects attracted to the area by the deputy minority whip of the House of Representatives, Chief Toby Okechukwu.

The senator said that contrary to speculations that constituency projects attracted to the area had been abandoned, “we do not abandon projects here.

“We are doing our best to attract projects to our people and will ensure that every project started by us will be completed,” he said.

The senator said that no fewer than 38 boreholes and several school projects had been completed in the area and awaiting inauguration.

He commended the leadership qualities of Okechukwu, whom he said had been passionate in attracting infrastructure to the area.

One of the projects monitored was the 39 kilometer Oji River-Awgu Road currently being constructed by Setraco Construction Company.

Ekweremadu said  the project was awarded in 2008 but the initial contractor that won the bid did not do much to deliver the project, adding  that the attitude of the contractor made the project to suffer temporary setback.

“It took us five years to withdraw this project from the defaulting contractor and handed it over to Setraco Construction Company.

“We are impressed with the level of job so far done and our people are equally happy that the project will soon be delivered,” he said.

Ekweremadu appealed to people of the area, particularly, the Mmaku community axis to cooperate with the contractor to sort out some grey areas hindering the job.

He said  some buildings in Mmaku community would have to give way, adding that compensation would be paid to owners of the affected houses.

“We want to thank our people for their patience. This project will be completed in 2021 and we will not be distracted in our commitments of delivering projects to our people. We still remain the best,” Ekweremadu said.
