Refusal to bribe lawmakers with N1.2bn caused Nyako’s removal – APC

By Mu’azu Abari

Contrary to the reasons given by the Adamawa lawmakers for impeaching Governor Murtala Nyako, fresh facts have emerged that the refusal of the ex-governor to bribe the lawmakers with the sum of N1.2 billion demanded by them in the name of constituency projects was the real reason the assembly led by the current acting governor, Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, decided to impeach the governor rather than act of gross misconduct as alleged.
This revelation was made by the Adamawa state chairperson of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Hon. Binta Garba Masi, while addressing journalists yesterday at the party secretariat in Yola, over the recent impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako, describing it as “unfortunate and dangerous” to the survival of democracy in the country.

She said the lawmakers demanded for N1.2 billion, but the ex-governor insisted  on giving them N500 million and had already made the sum of N350 million available to them, but that his inability to complete the money as demanded by the lawmakers led to his removal.
“I think the people of Adamawa state need to know this, the state lawmakers demanded  for the sum N1.2 billion in the name of constituency projects but the Governor insisted that, he will give them N500 million and they have already collected the sum of N350 million before his impeachment.”
This latest revelation is coming against the background of so many allegations of financial inducements by the Presidency and other anti-Nyako sources believed to have orchestrated the impeachment of Governor Murtala Nyako.
She accused the presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of masterminding Nyako’s removal for their selfish interest, alleging that the PDP had already penciled down some progressive governors to get them removed from office as part of their strategy to win the 2015 elections.
When contacted on the issue, the chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Information, who is also the member representing Michika constituency, Hon. Musa Kamale, declined comments.
