SWAN President on ground as FCT sports writers prepare to elect chairman, treasurer

Members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) FCT Chapter will on Friday May 10, 2024 return to the poll to elect the Chairman and Treasurer of the Association.

The election would be the concluding part of that which held on 26 April 2024, where the positions of the Vice chairman, Secretary, Welfare Officer, Financial Secretary and Assistant Secretary were filled, but the candidates for the positions of the Chairman and Treasurer were tied on the same votes.

During the 26th April elections, in the position of the Chairman, Folusho Alade Oyekan scored eight votes, while Tolulope Oguntimehin and Kelechi Onwudiwe polled 64 votes each.

Also, in the position of the Treasurer, Jane France Nweze and Taofeek Lawal polled 68 votes each.

The FCT SWANECO Chairman Patrick Ngwaogu had announced 10 May as the date for the conclusion of the election.

In a notice to that effect, Ngwaogu said the election which would be held at the Media center of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium will commence by 9am with the Accreditation of members and voting which would go simultaneously.

He said accreditations and voting will run till he 12noon when counting, declaration and swearing of winners would be held.

Ngwaogu who is also known as ‘Odogwu’ urged all the captured members of the Association to turn out enmass to vote the candidates of their choice into office. He was full of appreciation to members on the peaceful manner they have conducted themselves, all through the electoral process.

The former FCT FA Vice Chairman finally thanked the National Leadership of SWAN for the opportunity and support given to his committee.

Victor Okoye, Samuel Ahmadu, Joan Iwuchukwu, Niyi Busari and Friday Joshua were elected as Vice Chairman, Secretary, Welfare Officer, Financial Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively in the elections of 26th April. They will be sworn in alongside the Chairman and Treasurer that would be elected on Friday.

In view of the importance of the polls, SWAN President, Isaiah Kemje Benjamin has arrived Abuja and was received by the Secretary General, Ikenna Okonkwo.

His presence, as well as that of other national officers, is to ensure the concluding part of the polls is hitch free.
