Reconcile aggrieved members, keep campaign promises, NUJ tasks NAWOJ FCT

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Council, has tasked the newly elected executive of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) to reconcile aggrieved members and keep campaign promises of repositioning the Association to an enviable height.

NAWOJ, FCT Chapter, in a press statement by the Chairperson, Comrade Annah Daniel, and the Secretary, Comrade Nkiru Nnoli Okeke, said the Chairman, NUJ FCT, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbeche, handed the charge when Comrade Annah led the executive on a courtesy visit at the Council Secretariat in Abuja.

According to Ogbeche, “Reconciliation should be your starting point. Open door policy is key and cardinal to achieving whatever you have set out to achieve. I want to urge you to ensure that your doors are open to all members. The elections are over. It’s time to work.”

The Council Chairman, who pledged the readiness of NUJ to support the Chapter, urged the executive to reach out to the Council when necessary.

Speaking earlier, the NAWOJ Chairperson, “We have come to say thank you for the support the Council gave the Association during the elections.

“We have seen how you translate vision to reality and we are here to tap from your wealth of experience in our desire to reposition NAWOJ in the FCT and improve the fortunes of women journalists in line with my campaign promises. I also promise to operate an open door policy carry all members along.”

According to the Chairperson, NAWOJ is in dire need of trainings for members, mentorship, empowerment and entrepreneurial schemes that would impact socially, economically, intellectually and financially on the lives of women journalist in FCT.

“With your kind support, Mr Chairman Sir, our women can acquire skills that will give them much needed additional streams of income and  financial freedom given the economic reality in our country,” the Chairperson declared.

She assured that the executive would solicit support and partner with relevant organisations and stakeholders for the training and retraining of women Journalists in the FCT.
