Edo: Police rearrest escapee inmate 

The Edo State Police Command has rearrested an inmate who fled the Benin Correctional center during the 2020 #EndSARS protest in Benin City, the state capital.

The inmate, Jacob Alonge, 58, was serving his 21 years imprisonment sentence at the time.

Alonge was found guilty and convicted by the Edo High Court for raping his daughter Gift Alonge.

The state Police Commissioner, Funsho Adegboye, said operatives were able to rearrest the inmate through credible intelligence.

Adegboye disclosed that Alonge was apprehended in his house at Ososo community, Akoko -Edo local government area of the state.

The CP added: “The convict was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for raping his own daughters Gift Alonge.

“And while the case was ongoing  in Court, he threatened that the case would have no end, and true to his threat, his daughter and others who were coming to testify in court died mysteriously but he was convicted.

“The inmate is a  dangerous human being and  cannot live with the people in their community.” 

Continuing, the CP appealed to members of the community not to hide criminals because they may be their victim of tomorrow, noting that criminal don’t  have permanent friends.

The inmate in an interview said he escaped because every one was escaping after the prison which according to him, was forced open during #EndSars protest.
