Fire destroy vital documents at Immigration headquarters

The headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Road, Abuja was Sunday gutted by fire, burning some vital documents in some offices.


A source closed to the incidence told our correspondent that it will take the grace of God to retrieve some of the official documents affected by the fire incident.


The service has, however confirmed the fire incident through its twitter handle, @nigimmigration, saying the inferno affected some of its offices.


It however added that the fire was put out by operatives of its own fire station with assistance from sister-organizations around the airport.

“A fire incident occurred in our Service Headquarters this Morning. It affected some of our Offices.

“The fire has been put out by our Federal Fire Station and support from other agencies around the Airport.

“The cause of the fire is being investigated. We assure the public that the incident will not in any way affect the discharge of our services”, the NIS tweeted.


Earlier before the confirmation, a source, who is a senior officer of the service told our correspondent on phone that “the offices affected by the fire were critical to the smooth running of operation at the NIS headquarters. And it will take the grace of God to retrieve the burnt documents.”
