Abuja school union seeks better welfare for teachers

The Abuja chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) has commended Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on his commitment to ensuring better welfare for teachers.

The chairman of the union, Comrade Julius Ogundiran, gave the commendation in an interview with Blueprint in Abuja Sunday, at the backdrop of this year’s Workers’ Day.

While recognising the efforts of the minister and his team to ensure workers enjoy better working conditions, Ogundiran pledged the union’s continuous synergy and cooperation with the FCT administration in order to receive improved welfare.

He also appealed to the minister to improve the existing working environment for teachers in FCT.

“As workers, we do not ask for anything more than the ideals of a safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right to work,” he said.

He called on his comrades to also appreciate the good gesture of the government by rededicating themselves in carrying out their various assignments with all the professionalism required to excel.

He said, “Our output and productivity depend on our input and commitment.”
