PICTURES: Abuja bubbles as KCCN stages ‘K-pop hurray concert’  

Abuja, Nigeria’s capital was full of life (socially) on Saturday May 4, 2024 when the Korea Cultural Center in Nigeria (KCCN) staged K-Pop Hurray Concert with talented artists, mostly youth rolling  out all manner of musical rendezvous.

The concert, Blueprint reports was organised in partnership with Jumparewa Creative

Taking about the essence of the event, KCCN Culture and Event Officer, Ms Jennifer Ezeonyeasi, said this maiden edition of K-pop hurray concert in Abuja was in commemoration of the ‘ World Dance Day’ celebrated every April 29.

Ezeonyeasi said the event was designed to bring the K-pop community in Nigeria together, as well as the winners of K-pop and those that had gone to Korea for K-pop.

She said, ”Ajiga, creative director of Jumparewa creative was the former winner of KCCN K-pop festival with his outstanding performance.

“Basically , we invited the winners and finalists of K-pop in 2012, 2015, 2023 among others, like the Tsod dancers that had won in Nigeria and Korea.

”This will help in strengthening and building a K-pop network among communities in Nigeria, as well as facilitating collaboration because Korean pop music is large in Korea.”

She added that the Nigeria music industry is also big, as well as their dancing formula.

”It has also help in notifying dancers, who want to improve in their dancing skills and learn from a Korea choreographer, commencement of K-pop class academy session in 27th May,” she said.

Also speaking, KCCN director, Kim Chang-gi, said the concert was hosted in Abuja because several diplomats and well-informed Nigerians live within the capital city.

He said already KCCN has lineup more social, cultural, educational and sporting events in 2024 which will take place in Lagos, Porthacourt and Abuja.

The highpoint of the event was performance of K-pop finalists and winners such as ‘The Alpha Tribe’, ‘The Spectral’, ‘The Tsod’,’The Rich Company” The kingsmen’, ‘ The Jumphaz’, ‘Elevatorzng’ and Jumparewa dancers.

Miss Amudipe Oluwalawami popularly known as Teywa, emerged winner at the end of the dance challenge.

Speaking on its overall essence, Creative Director of Jumparewa Creative, Mr. Isaac Ajiga, the event’s goal was to foster and fortify the K-pop community by facilitating networking and engagement.
