Believe in yourselves, Minister charges youth

The Minister of state, youths development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande, has urged youth to believe in themselves so as to realise and develop their potentials.

The Minister stated this on Saturday, while interacting with youths in Niger state, at a town hall meeting on new National Youths Development Policy, held at the Justice Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre, Minna.

He described Nigerian youths as wonderful people and the best one can find anywhere in the world if provided with a conducive environment, adding it was high time the youths stopped accepting the name tag as leaders of tomorrow.

He also stressed the need to change the orientation of the youths towards a productive life, saying with competency, commitment and good character the youths will change the country and prove to our forefathers that we can develop the country.

The Minister also observed that if the youths believes in themselves they can be whatever they want to be in life, urging them to be committed and be part of the change agents that will steer the wheel of development of the country.

While appreciating the Niger state Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umar Bago for giving the youths a place in his government, the Minister also disclosed that youths have the ideas and initiatives to move this country forward but cannot make it work unless all stakeholders join hands together to make it work.

He equally appreciated the wonderful reception accorded him by the Niger state youths, saying he has seen vibrant youths who were ready to be part of change agents and youths development champions that will drive the development of the country.

In his address, the state Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umar Bago, who was represented at the event by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, said Niger state was fortunate to have young leaders who have the capacity to deliver on their mandate.

He disclosed that youths development was top priority of the present administration in the state, hence the reason behind the increasing investment in education and other youths related activities in the state.

The Governor added that the youths were integral part of the agricultural revolution in the state in order to give the youths a new lease of life as government cannot absorb all the unemployed youths in the state in its formal sector, urging the teaming youths in the state to leverage on this opportunity to better their lives.

While urging the youths in the state to embrace skills acquisition, he also advised the youth leaders in the state to link up with youths in the informal sector and bridge the gap between youths in the formal and informal sector.

The governor also observed that the town hall meeting was a demonstration of participatory democracy, and appreciated the Minister for the visit, hoping that the deliberation will yield positive outcomes.
