Commotion as Buhari delivers speech
The convention was not without commotion on Saturday even as President Muhammadu Buhari, was delivering his speech. Blueprint gathered that a faction of Delta State’s delegates led by a lawmaker caused the disruption against another faction occupying the allocated seat to the state delegates.
Security officials who are in large numbers quickly rose to the occasion to restore normalcy. The aggrieved delegates were seen throwing brooms on the air as well as the party’s symbol at each other.
Earlier, there was all commotion of such at Oyo state allocated seat when supporters of Minister of Communication Adebayo Shittu and that of Governor Abiola Ajumobi, engaged in disagreement. Even as voting and counting of votes were going on in different pavilions to elect new officers for the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
It however took the frantic efforts of security agents to bring the situation under control as chairs, tables and sticks were seen flying in different directions, as argument broke out at the stand.
The reason for the pandemonium was not readily ascertained, but it was gathered that it may not be unconnected to the tightly contested seat of the party’s National Organising Secretary.
While Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo was said to favour Mr Emma Ibediro for the position, South-East APC stakeholders wants its current occupant, Sen. Osita Izunaso and other national officers of the party from the zone to be re-elected.
