Oni carpets Yakassai over card reader rigging claim

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Chairman (South),
Engr. Segun Oni, has faulted an elder statesman, Tanko Yakassai, over statement that the North in 2015 took advantage card readers malfunctioning to rig election in favour President Muhammadu Buhari.
Yakassai, who is the chairman of Northern Leaders and Stakeholders Assembly (NLSA), reportedly made the statement when he led members of the steering committee on advocacy visit to former Military President Gen. Ibrahim Babaginda, in Minna Niger state.
But when ask to comment over the issue, Engr. Oni, who is also seeking the ticket of the APC to contest the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti state, dismissed Yakassai’s claim as untrue.
Speaking yesterday in Abuja when he visited the national Secretariat of the APC to pick his nomination form ahead of the party’s governorship primary, Oni said Nigerians actually rejected the PDP government.
“I want to say that, that is not true. The card reader cannot rig election. Human beings can rig elections not card readers. I must say that when people are looking for ways to justify their inadequacies, they will look for failures, they will look for faults, so, the card reader has suddenly become.
“The truth is that Nigerians voted overwhelmingly for Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari. The people were tired of the PDP, were clearly embarrassed by a government that went not just pilfering, and went to the extent of even stealing what is supposed to be the source of his own wealth.
“A government that clearly shows that it was clueless, and had nothing to contribute and was probably tired, so Nigerians went on to vote that government out. People are now waking up from slumber and trying to posit reasons why they lost. They lost because people replied it was time to go,” Oni stated.
Meanwhile, another aspirant, Muyiwa Olumilua, a son of a former governor of Ekiti state, stressed that there was need for good governance in Ekiti, adding that though the state was blessed with greet potentials, it is one of the poorest in the country.
He said with good governance and the right persons in government, Ekiti would become the envy of other states in terms of development.
He said that his administration if voted in would resuscitate the hailing health facilities in the state and make healthcare more affordable to the people.
The aspirant added that he would give education, agriculture and the state´s economy priority if elected.
