Obtain your visa in Abuja, Ethiopian Airlines tells Nigerians

Amidst the controversies surrounding the purported ceding of 49 per cent equity in the new Nigeria Air project to Ethiopian Airlines by the federal government, the East African carrier on Tuesday slammed a ban on visa for Nigeria wishing to visit the country by ending its visa on arrival policy for Nigerians.

In a circular to its travel agents and partners in Nigeria, the airline noted that henceforth, Nigerian visitors must obtain their visa from the Ethiopian embassy in Abuja before jetting out to the country aboard the airline.

The circular reads,” Please be informed that effective immediately, (Tuesday October 5th) No More Visa on Arrival For Nigerian Citizens. Passengers are to obtain their Visa at Ethiopian Embassy in Abuja before traveling.

“Please note that: Passengers transiting overnight in Addis Ababa are not affected by the ban. E.g. Passengers having layover in Addis to travel the next morning to Zanzibar, Seycheles, Lusaka, Lilongwe, Harare, Cape Town, Etc are not affected by the ban and do not need transit visa for their trips.

Just last week in Montreal, Canada, Ethiopian Minister of Transport and Logistics, Dagamawit  Moges led her country’s delegation at the 41st General Assembly of ICAO on a courtesy visit to the Aviation Minister, Senator Hadi Sirika at the Nigerian ICAO Mission.

The two parties described the Nigeria Air project partnership between the two highest populated African nations as one that will impact greatly on the Aviation industry in the continent and intergovernmental relationships.
