Practicing journalists from Nsukka socio-cultural zone of Enugu state under the aegis of Nsukka Journalists Foundation (NJF), has called on the National Assembly to create the proposed Adada state out of the existing Enugu state.
The foundation made the call in a communiqué issued at a summit held at Jerry Marriott Hotel and Suits, Nsukka weekend where issues of interest to Nsukka cultural zone were extensively discussed.
The foundation stated that the call to create the proposed state became necessary because “Old Nsukka province is one of two such colonial provinces that is yet to become a state in Nigeria.” It insisted that now was the time to make Adada a state in the comity of states in Nigeria.
The foundation in a 7-point communique also called on Enugu state government to embark on massive infrastructural development of Nsukka cultural zone “to bridge the gap existing between the area and its counterparts.”
In the same vein, they condemned in very strong terms the terror being continually unleashed on the rural people of Nsukka as well as other parts of the southern and middle belt states by gun men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen and called on the federal government to do everything necessary to bring to an end the needless mayhem.
Peeved by the level of insecurity in various parts of Nigeria, they called on governments at all levels to address the general state of insecurity in the country by providing the enabling environment for job creation and employment of the teeming youth of the area and Nigeria as a whole.
