NGO tasks Ganduje on anti-graft offices in Kano LGs

A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Centre for Awareness on Justice and Accountability (CAJA), has called on the Kano state Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to fulfill his promise to establish offices of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission in all the 44 local government areas.
Executive Director of CAJA, Kabiru Sa’idu Dakata, at a press conference in Kano yesterday, said the group was reminding the Ganduje administration to fulfill its pledge in its ongoing anti-corruption crusade.
He advised the state government to commence the commissioning of some of the offices on 1st October 1, 2018, “when Nigeria celebrates her independence.”
He commended the Ganduje administration for recording unprecedented success in the fight against graft, noting that the appointment of competent leaders was the reason for the success.
“The Kano Anti-corruption commission has been in existence since 2005, but it recently becomes more functional as a result of appointing more competent leaders and qualified staff to manage its affairs.
“While we commend the great strides made by the commission to position itself to sustain the fight against corruption in Kano state, we believe there is room for improvement.
“We call on the government to bring the commission closer to the people. The state government had introduced the past poised to commission the anti-corruption offices in each of the local government area of the state. We hope the government will commit to this and commission some of these offices on 1st October, 2018 when the country will celebrate Independence Day.
“We appreciate the effort of the commission in educating people its activities and functions through various public awareness strategies. We however, call on the commission to create a specific enlightenment campaign on how youths and general public can report corruption cases to it.”
