N6.3bn ‘fraud’: EFCC to appeal Jang, Pam’s acquittal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said it would challenge the acquittal of former Governor of Plateau state, Senator Jonah David Jang, and a former Cashier in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (OSSG), Yusuf Pam, by a Plateau State High Court.

Justice C.L Dabup of the Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos, Friday, discharged and acquitted the duo.

Blueprint had reported that there was heavy deployment of security around the court area before and during the court sitting during which the judgement was delivered.

However, in a swift reaction the EFCC Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, in a press statement in Abuja, titled: EFCC To Appeal Ruling Absolving Ex-Gov Jang Of N6.3bn Fraud, disclosed that the anti-graft body has initiated processes to appeal the judgement.

He said, “The attention of the EFCC has been drawn to the Friday, September 2, 2022, judgment of Justice C.L Dabup of the Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos, discharging and acquitting a former Governor of Plateau state, Senator Jonah David Jang, and a former Cashier in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (OSSG), Yusuf Pam, of the 17-count-charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of Plateau State funds to the tune of N6.3 billion.

“The Commission has initiated processes for an Appeal immediately.”
