Man jailed 14 years for raping 4-year-old stepdaughter

An Ado-Ekiti High Court has sentenced one David Oluwatoba, 57, to 14 years imprisonment for having sex with his four-year-old step daughter.
The trial judge, Toyin Abodunde, found the accused guilty, and said that the prosecution had proofed the case beyond any reasonable doubt based on the weight of evidence before the court.

The judge held that the prison term would run from the day of conviction.
Oluwatoba committed the crime on August 12, 2013 at Odo Usi Street, Awo Road, Igede-Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area.
He was first arraigned in court on November 27, 2015.
During the trial, exhibits tendered against Oluwatoba included photographs, medical report on the sexual assault and statement of the accused at the police station.
The convict has another wife besides the mother of the victim, who has a different father.
It was gathered that the victim had a carnal knowledge of the girl while he was bathing her on the day her mother was not at home.

On her return, the woman noticed blood stains on the victim’s dress resulting from bleeding from her private part.
She raised the alarm and ensured that the incident was reported to the Igede-Ekiti Police Divisional Headquarters and the convict was promptly arrested.
“We are not impressed that he was only sent to jail, but this will serve as a lesson and deterrent to other elderly people raping minors in the society,” a resident of the area said.
“It is difficult to explain why a man at his age married to two women would condescend to having carnal knowledge of his stepdaughter.”
