Korea-Nigeria relationship: Thrills at 7th K-Pop dance competition

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea, through its cultural wing – Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN) has over the years been known for its consistency of programs.
Aside from Korean speaking contest, Taekwondo classes, Poetry fiesta, drawing competition, K-Pop dance completion and many more people-oriented programs, the Centre has supported the country in many ways.
The most recently held example of such diplomatic effort was the national K-pop dance competition which held in Abuja amidst mammoth of crowd and eminent personalities across the country.
In its 7th edition, the K-Pop dance competition which held in Abuja recently arrested the attention of many Nigerians especially the youth who thronged to participate or spectate the yearly event.
This year’s edition of the K-POP competition saw seven dance groups competing in the adult category and six others in the student’s category.
Made up of students from various schools from across the country, the participating dance groups performed to the delight of a table of five judges and a mammoth audience.
The swift dancers had a colorful costume which was a combination of the Korean attire and that of typical hip hop dancers.
They got a standing ovation from the audience amidst roaring applause.
At the end of the performance, all eyes turned on to the judges for their final say.
Accordingly, the audiences were not disappointed as the best groups emerged first, second and third places in the two categories.
In the Adult Category, Northsidekingz group emerged winners with a N500, 000 cash prize and other gift items.
While the Elite Dance group and Classic Royal group emerging first and second runner-ups with a cash prize of N300,000 and N100,000 respectively.
While in the Student Category, Julimore dance group clinched the winning title carting away with N300,000.
While the first and second runner-ups, K-Popian Boys and K-Popian Girls 1st PLace Winners Adult Category, Northside Kingz pose with Korean got N200,000 and N100,000 and gift items respectively.
True to the judgments of the arbitrators, these winner dance groups performed exceptionally.
Northsidekingz dance Crew, for example, had a great performance.
They showed a better version of themselves towards the end of their dance and had a great finish.
Their outfit tallied with their dance.
Their performance gave a demo of the typical upper class life.
It was an all-boys group with a significant female.
They had a coordinated body movement and their costume was on point with their song and what they represented.
The Julimore dance crew had a juicy performance and their dance rhymed with their song.Their dance and outfit represented the well-to-do Korean youths.
Their performance was brief and beautiful.
Blueprint Weekend reports that the K-Pop Dance Competition is an annual dance competition where dance teams choose from listed K-Pop songs, made their own video of the K-Pop dance music video and submitted online for preliminary screening to which professional dancers and instructors adjudged all entries and finalists emerged.
The overall first and second place winners of this final competition will enter for the preliminary rounds of the KBS World K-Pop Festival in Korea.
This means that one of the two teams stand a chance to compete in the K-Pop world festival in Korea later in the year.
