Include peace education in curriculum, monarch urges FG

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Emminence, Muhammad Sa”ad Abubakar has called on the federal government to introduce peace and national integration in education curriculum from primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.

Sultan made the appeal at National Muslim and Christian Youth Summit in Abuja, organised by Community and Youth Development in collaborations with Christian Youth for Peace and Development Initiative.

The Sultan said Muslim faithful are to live in peace with one another, adding that Nigeria should not be allowed themselves to be brainwashed on issues of religion.

The Sultan frowned at the way youth are becoming the weapon for destroying peace built for national integration. He further  said that government should organize another seminar on national integration for the creation of peace based on  one nation one people.

The Sultan who was represented by the Emir of Keffi, Dr Chindo Shehu Yamusa, cautioned politicians to demonstrate spirit of love and national integration among the people.

Similarly, a keynote speaker Professor Ishaq Oloyede stressed that religious leaders should practice what they preach to people. The secretary general, NSCIA, said the seminar is a crusader for national unity and peace building among religions in the country, reiterating that Muslims and Christians should continue to coexist peacefully.

“Life without religion is like birds without trees,” he said.

The theme was entitled, “Toward peaceful and harmonious Nigeria, The role of Christian and Muslim Youths”.

In the same vein, the Director General Christian Youth for Peace and Development Initiative, Ambassador Simon Dolly, disclosed that the significance of the summit is to proffer solution to national development and to encourage the youth to give leaders the peace to strive. He said the problem of insecurity, religious crises and youth clamoring for revolution is not the right philosophy.
