Niger Assembly to reposition state varsity

Niger state Assembly has assured of its determination to partner in repositioning of the state owned university, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai (IBBUL) for greater heights and educational development of the state.

Speaker of the Assembly, Barrister Abdullahi Bawa Wuse, stated this Thursday while speaking at the maiden international conference on election and democratic experiment in Nigeria organised by the department of political science of the university.

He said: “No society can develop without giving education deserved priority. It is therefore necessary for relevant stakeholders including the Niger state House of Assembly to give IBB University all that is required for it to achieve envisaged objectives”.

The speaker assured that the Assembly would make necessary legislatures towards enhancing the development of the university, adding that the institution has played vital role in making higher education affordable in the state.

He commended the management of the university for upholding the vision of the founders of the university especially the determination of the state government to provide affordable and qualitative education to its citizens.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of developmental  strides recorded at the University by the successive Managements of the Institution and enjoined them to sustain the efforts.

The speaker said hope was however not lost on Nigeria democratic growth as deliberate efforts were being made by relevant stakeholders to remedy inherent challenges in political landscape of the country.

In a welcome address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare, who spoke through the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Professor Mohammed Saba Mohammed, charged the conference to come up with practical recommendations that would assist the country to surmount reoccurring electoral challenges that tend to threaten the democratic process.

He applauded the doggedness and commitment of faculty members of Department of Political Science to successfully organise an International conference and assured of Management continued support.
