In Nasarawa, Osinbajo commissions multi-billion naira infectious diseases centre

Vice President Yemi  Osinbajo, Tuesday commissioned a multi-billion naira Nasarawa state Infectious Disease and Research Centre (NASIDRC), in Lafia, the state capital.
During the commissioning in Lafia, Osinbajo commended the Nasarawa state government for the vision.


He said Nasarawa state was not by any means the wealthiest state in the country, but has proved that vision is better than money.
“The second lesson to learn in what Nasarawa state did today is that vision can be killed if ideas behind such vision are muted,” he said. He also commended former governor Umaru Al-Makura for initiating the programme and Governor Abdullahi Sule for completing it. 


The vice president affirmed that the centre is equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities and has a provision of a biosafety levels II & III laboratories, a molecular laboratory, an isolation ward, an Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), an administrative structure and a conference hall.    

Earlier, governor Sule said when he assumed office, he made a solemn commitment to complete projects initiated by the previous administration in the state.
He commended the effort of the federal government for the support, intervention and partnership in its collective commitment for the socio-economic development state and the country at large.
“Furthermore, as the name implies, the centre will also serve as a research hub, crucial for innovations and operational research that will provoke policy initiation.
“Similarly, the centre will conduct clinical trials for vaccines, drugs and other products, in compliance with ethical standards, as well as support training in public health and researches at all levels,” Sule said.
