The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has been licensed to run ILO Port-Worker Development Programme (PDP) for training purpose in the country.
This was contained in Chief Public Relations Officer of the Institute, Mr Paul Ali Msheliza, yesterday in Zaria.
The statement said:

“The International Labour Organisation (ILO) issued the license on December 1, 2013, aimed at encouraging worldwide development and standardisation of training programme for port-workers in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.  The licence, which is for a period of five years, remains valid until December 31, 2018.

“NITT secured the license based on its active participation in the ILO Train-The-Trainer initiative as well as the suitability of its facilities and competence of resource personnel to run port-workers related training programmes.
“ILO officials have equally accredited NITT training facilities in Zaria, Lagos, Abuja and Port-Harcourt to serve as bases for training of port-workers in Nigeria.”

The statement explained that With this development the Institute became  the first institution in the country to be granted the license to offer PDP related programmes for port-workers.
However, it quoted the Director General of the Institute, Dr. Aminu Musa Yusuf, to have described the granting of the licence as “a positive development” to the Institute.
According to the statement, Dr. Aminu Musa Yusuf appreciates the ILO for granting the Institute the license and assures that it will leave up to this challenge.
