International research centre opens in Uyo

A research centre of international standard for training and capacity building initiative for the development of staff is to be established in the 23 years old Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit.
The Chairman, governing council of the college, Prof Lawrence Etuk disclosed this recently when he led members of the council and the leader of the American Full bright Scholars, to the institution. He further explained that the body was founded by Americans who offer scholarship and research programmes to people within and outside the United States.

The registrar, Mr. IniAbasi A. Ubong, in his speech at the occasion, expressed happiness that “by the time the centre is set up, it will help to develop the capacity of the staff and enables them key into the grants of other international bodies that sponsor research activities”.

Mr. IniAbasi also explained that the funds set aside by TETFUND for research in the college was N2 Million which was not enough for some research programme stressing that there was need for the college to seek assistance from some international bodies, so as to do more on research activities.
“We are also looking for opportunity to collaborate with higher institutions for programmes like this especially as we will soon start awarding degrees, he added.
