Gunmen kill 11 in Zamfara village

Governor Abdul’Azeez Yari Abubakar, yesterday visited and commiserated with the families of the 11 people, who were reportedly killed by suspected gunmen in Dorayi Village in Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state.

Yari described the killing of the 11 persons as “an act of barbarism” which needed to be condemned by the people of the state, saying that his administration will continue to ensure the safety of all citizens of the state.

He assured the people of the state of the resolve of the state government to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime and be dealt with according to the law.

According to the representative of the District Head of Dorayi, who briefed the governor on the unfortunate incident, the hoodlums numbering about 50 invaded the village around midnight and headed straight to the village viewing centre, where they opened fire on all those around leaving 11 people dead with another 23 people sustaining different degrees of injury.

In a reaction, the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, commended the governor for his quick response to the plight of the people of the Zurmi Emirate.

He assured him of the loyalty of the people to his administration.
The sum of N570,000 was donated to each to the families of the 11 people killed, while the sum of N150,000 each was given to the 23 persons injured in the attack.
