Ex-councillor rehabilitates 2km road, set to donate 500,000 books to public schools in Akwa Ibom

A former councilor in Uyo local government area, Mr Christopher James, has graded over two kilometers of road linking two communities of Afaha Atai and Afaha Etok.

The communities are located in Ibesikpo Asutan local government area.

James, the Chief Executive Officer of C-qube construction company, said the gesture became necessary due to the difficulties people in the communities experienced in carrying out their daily economic activities.

He made this known while briefing newsmen shortly after the official commissioning of the road on Monday at Afaha Atai community.

The business man, who hinted that the project worth millions of naira, said the village heads of the communities ordered that the roads be named after him.

James, popularly called Udombakara said he had prepared over 500,000 exercise books to be distributed across public schools in the state, adding that it would help the students and also support education sector in the state.

He noted that the gesture had no political undertone, stressing that he was not ready to contest for any political position but to focus on his business.

“I am very excited for what God has used me to do. I would say that passion also propelled me into this.

“This is about 2 kilometers of road that I have graded single-handedly without personal interest, this is to help the villagers go about their businesses with ease. This project has taken millions of naira for its execution.

“I was a member of 6th legislative council and I do not nurse the idea of contesting election soon but I felt I should raised people up in my company.

“Through my company, I have been able to train 100 youths on skill acquisition and we will continue to raise youths up for them to be self-reliance,” he said.

Udombakara then called on the youths to shun all forms of societal vices like cultism and embrace vocational skills for their future.

The Chairman, Village Council of Afaha Atai, Mr Michael Capus who spoke on behalf of the council, commended James for the good gesture he had shown to the people irrespective of the fact that he was not an indigene of the area.

Capus said he had helped a lot of youths of the area to acquire vocational skills and that had directly impacted the society.

According to him, “Hon. Christopher James is our illustrious son, despite the fact that he is not from here. Since the day he stepped into this community, he had brought a lot of development to us.

“This road that you see here, is his own personal money he used in grading it and his company has helped a lot of youth to acquire skill, so, we are very grateful to him.”

Also speaking, the Youth President of Afaha Atai, Mr Godwin Effiong, thanked James for what he had done for the people of the area.

Effiong, who said the graded road which was before now bushy had become clear, plain and smooth for people to drive through, adding that with the gesture, development would get to the community.

He said the youths and the entire community would ever be grateful to Udombakara for the good he had done for them.
