Emir of Zazzau: We ‘ve lost rare gem, source of wisdom – El-Rufai

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state has described the death of Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, as a huge loss to Kaduna state and Nigeria, noting that the late emir was a rare gem, a source of wisdom and guidance. The Emir of Zazzau and Chairman of Kaduna state Traditional Council, Alhaji Shehu Idris, died on Sunday at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna at the age of 84 years after a brief illness.  
Governor el-Rufai, who expressed sadness at the Emir’s death said, “It is with great sadness that I confirm the passing of the father of our state, Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji (Dr.) Shehu Idris. He died at the 44 Military Hospital Kaduna today after a brief illness. 


“Janazah prayer in Zaria is scheduled for 5pm insha Allah. All Covid-19 protocols to be complied with as much as possible during the funeral prayers and condolences.
“I have inform President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR of the great loss and offered our condolences. The Chief of Staff to PMB, Prof Ibrahim Gambari will lead a Federal Government delegation to Zaria to condole with the family of His Highness, Zazzau Emirate Council and the people of Zazzau Emirate and Kaduna state.


“We have lost a rare gem, a source of wisdom and guidance and a true father of all. May Allah Grant his soul abode in Aljanna Firdaus. Amin.”
The Waziri Zazzau and son of late Emir of Zazzau, Aminu Shehu Idris, confirmed the death of his late father who was appointed on February 15, 1975 and spent 45 years on the throne of Zazzau Emirate. 
He said the late monarch “has been battling with an undisclosed ailment for a decade until this morning when death snatched him away”.


The late monarch is the 18th Fulani ruler of the Zazzau Emirate. 
He left behind four wives and dozens of children and grand children as well as great grandchildren. 
Source disclosed that the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad, is expected to lead other traditional rulers to attend the burial of the first class monarch later on Sunday.
