Edo gets new FA chairman

The Edo State Football Association (FA) on Tuesday ratified the impeachment of Mr. Roland Abu, its embattled former chairman.

The decision was reached during the State FA Congress in Benin City, during which its vice chairman, Dr. Aghedo Moses was elevated as acting chairman.

The congress was attended by delegates, board members, observers and members of Edo State Sports Commission who witnessed the proceedings.

On April 17, 2023 the FA board passed a no-confidence-vote on Abu over his alleged inability to render financial reports amongst other issues.

The board had at the time also alleged irregularities, poor handling and poor conduct of football matters as reason for his ouster.~

During Monday’s meeting, a member of the board, Mr. Kindness Ohiowele informed congress of the board decision suspending Abu on April 17.

He said several invitation was extended to the ex-chairman to come forward and defend allegations against him, adding that he did not get any response.

To this end a member of congress, Prince Daniel Iwero moved a motion to ratify the impeachment of Abu, while Mr. Aimuogbonrie Jimmy seconded.

With no objection, the congress unanimously adopted the motion.

The new FA acting chairman, Dr. Moses Aghedo said he would stand in the gap to deliver good football administration in Edo.
