Polish Ambassador tasks teachers on research, building future leaders

The Ambassador of Poland to Nigeria Ambassador, Joanna Tarnawska, has charged teachers of tertiary institutions in the country to engaged in research in order to give their best to the new generation of students seeking for knowledge.

Ambassador Tarnawska gave the charge on Tuesday while delivering the 6th distinguished public lecture of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) held at the Felele campus of the institution titled: “How to Effectively Pass Knowledge and Inspire Students in the Contemporary World,”

According to her, it is imperative for teachers to Know their subject matter and be ready to deepen their knowledge continuously through researches and other ways that can improve their teaching capacity.

While urging teachers to always give practical examples during teaching, the Ambassador, said such method would enable the students listen attentively and follow the teachers instructions.

“The youths are eager to learn about life and things around them, which calls for caution on passing information across to them. Every well meaning nation is working towards having well disciplined and patriotic future leaders that bring about growth and development.

“Nowadays, a teacher is not an encyclopedia anymore, but a teacher is a book mark and a beacon who points to the relevant paragraph. Therefore, a teacher must know his or her audience, adapt your language and content to the listeners”

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, described the topic Ambassador Joanna brought to the institution “How to Effectively Pass Knowledge and Inspire Students in the Contemporary World,” as not just timely but imperative.

According to him, in an era marked by rapid technological advancements, societal transformations, and global interconnectedness, the role of education transcends mere dissemination of facts.

“It therefore behoves upon us to instill in our students a hunger for knowledge, a love for learning, and a sense of purpose that extends beyond classroom boundaries.

“As Vice-Chancellor of this esteemed institution, I am keenly aware of the profound impact that effective teaching and inspirational mentorship can have on the lives of our students.

“It is through the dedication and commitment of educators like yourselves that we empower our students to become critical thinkers, innovative problem-solvers, and compassionate leaders in their respective fields” the VC said.

The climax of the lecture was questions posed on the student event was climaxed with Ambassador’s questions put the students and the presentation of gifts those who got them correctly.
