Edo: Four escapee prison inmates shot dead for kidnapping

Four inmates who escaped from the Benin correctional centres during the October 2020 #EndSARS protest have reportedly met their waterloo while attempting to abduct an expartraite working in Okomu Palm oil company in Edo state.
Blueprint gathered that the gang were shot dead at the Benin bypass road on Tuesday during a gunfire with  officers of the Inspector General of Police Response Team ( IRT) and the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of Edo state police command .

The four deceased suspects – Osaosemwen Osifo, David Ogba, Efosa Friday and Nelson Uchiko, were reportedly arrested in 2015 for alleged kidnapping and remanded in  correctional centre.
Police sources said the gang regrouped  after the 2020 jail breaks and returned to crime – terrorising unsuspecting residents.
While three of them (deceased suspects) were reportedly killed on the spot during a gun duel, one of them,  Osaosemwen Osifo however narrated his involvement with the gang before he died.

His Osifo’s confession was monitored in a video released by the operatives.
According to the suspect, “I was in prison when they suddenly opened the gate last year, and we all escaped with my friends.
“We then formed another gang to kidnap and raise money to travel out of Nigeria.
“I had  ran to Abuja, but  came back to Benin city for this kidnapping of the man working in Presco.

“I was shocked how the police got to know about our plan. I regret this kidnapping”.
Two AK 47 rifles and several mobile phones were said to have been recovered from the suspects.

The state police spokesman, SP. Bello Kotongs, could not be reached for comments as calls to his mobile line went unanswered.
