Cultural week: Teach your children local dialect, cleric tells parents

To strengthen and promote Nigerian culture and indigenous languages, the rector, Sacred Heart Seminary, Port Harcourt, Rev. Father Edward Patta, has called on parents to teach their children  local dialect so they can speak their language fluently.

The rector gave the charge at the maiden edition of cultural week and food exhibition organised by the Sacred Heart

Seminary, Port Harcourt, weekend.

He spoke through his deputy, Rev. Fr. Paul Enyi, saying that the call became imperative following the fast eroding effect in our local dialect and culture.

He said: “So many things have been lost in our culture. Our culture is now a mitigated culture. Our children now don’t know left or right. They cannot even communicate in their mother’s tongue. So it is time for parents to rise up and take up the challenge to ensure children are properly educated on the need to embrace Nigerian culture,” Fr. Patta stated.
