Speaker of the Edo state House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Edoror, and his deputy, Hon. Bright Osayande, have been impeached over alleged gross misconduct.
Blueprint gathered that 16 legislators signed the impeachment notice on the duo.
Part of the notice read: “We the underlisted and undersigned Honourable members representing the various constituencies in the Edo state House of Assembly have on this day 3rd of May 2016 resolved to impeach our speaker, Hon. Chief Victor Edoror Tiger, and the Deputy Speaker Hon. Osayande, for acts of gross misconduct.”

They (16 lawmakers) waited till about 2pm during which the Majority Leader, Hon. Folly Ogedegbe (APC), moved the motion for the speaker and his deputy’s impeachment.
With no objection, the motion was immediately seconded by Hon. Gani Audu (APC).
Hon. Patrick Iluobe (PDP) was afterwards appointed ex-tempo speaker to preside over the business of the day where the new speaker, Hon. Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie (APC) and Dr. Joseph Okonoboh (APC) were nominated as Speaker and deputy, respectively.

The new speaker told reporters that five member committee headed by Kabiru Adjoto (APC) will investigate the financial recklessness of the impeached speaker
Pandemonium, however, ensued after the impeached Speaker, six lawmakers in company of over 300 thugs invaded the chamber and engaged the anti-Edoror legislators in fisticuffs.
Guns, canisters and other dangerous objects were freely used by the attackers.
At the time the dust settled, six persons were severely wounded.
Edoror, who latter convened a parallel sitting with six members, said he remained the Speaker, adding that a committee would be set up to investigate the “unfortunate incident.”
Addressing journalists after the sitting, Edoror said he was the only person empowered to convene sittings.
