NPFL: Rangers garner 60 points, stretch lead

Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, the Flying Antelopes, have continued their lead in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) table by beating visiting Bayelsa United by 3-0 in the week 33 of the game.

Rangers opened the scoring spree at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu in the 43rd minute through Godwin Obaje.

Obaje again found the net a second time in the 62nd minute bringing Rangers score to two goals, while the Rangers winning and last goal came in the 65th minute through Chiedozie Okorie.

Commenting on the match, Bayelsa United head coach, Meremu Okara, said Rangers lived up to billing, and deserved to win.

“Rangers played well. They deserved to win the match. Our boys played but Rangers were good,” he said.

On officiating, Okara said he would not comment but said that it fell short of his expectation.

“Happy that Rangers won the match and are top of the league table, Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu said that they prepared to win.

“We prepared well for the match,” he said.

Asked if his team would carry the league at the end of the day, Ilechukwu said it was not easy to hazard a guess.

“You never can tell who would win the league,” he said, adding that they will prepare well for the remaining matches to stay on top.
