Democracy @ 18: FG has failed on economy – PFN chieftain

By Kingston Obung Calabar

As the country celebrates 18th anniversary of democracy today, the National Publicity Secretary of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Emmah Gospel Isong, has scored the federal government low on area of economy. In a chat with Blueprint in Calabar, Isong said: “You and I know that the President Buhari-led government has done very poorly almost to the point of failure in the area of economy. Nigerians voted for ‘Change’ to change their statue, to change their economic challenges, for empowerment, but today, Nigerians are hungry and angry. “Th ere is unemployment; there is no investment in critical sectors including power, energy, education, agriculture, industrialisation and infrastructures.

Th ese are areas that could have turned around the life of Nigerians. Nigerians today cannot aff ord the commonest things of life including food, water and light.” Asked to substantiate his submission on government, he said: “It is no more a secret both in public and private domain. Even the APC Chieftains have agreed that this government is the worst government in economic formulas. It has not been able to put food on the table of ordinary Nigerians. Th ey have goofed, stumbled and fallen in the area of cash circulation, fi scal policies, banking regulations and basic commercial laws. “We are lacking good hands; intelligent, experience men around the President to advise him economically for Nigeria to come out of recession which has ravaged every sector of the economy. Even the President’s kinsmen are complaining.

Th is is no more one man’s voice, even the President himself confessed that things are tough and Nigerians are hungry. “I believe that key players in this administration were politically prepared to take over government but they were not economically armed to manage government. Winning of an election is diff erent from managing of an economy, and this is a big lesson for future governments. To win an election and constitute a government does not tantamount to having key players that can drive the economy
