Benue citizens laud tax boss for going after banks

By Kula Tersoo Makurdi Benue citizens have continued to shower commendations on the Chairman, Benue Internal Revenue Services (BIRS), Mrs. Mimi Adzape-Orubibi for confronting big establishments who have been evading tax. A former lawmaker from the state Vitalis Iornongo and Captain Enejo Omale who spoke to Blueprint in Makurdi said it was an action worth commendation especially, the recent sealing of Banks.BIRS enforcement team led by its chairman last Th ursday sealed off the premises of, Zenith, Fidelity, Skye and Unity Banks in all the branches within Makurdi metropolis for allegedly evading tax. According to the BIRS boss, who spoke to the press afterthe exercise, the taxes includes assessed PAYE Taxes/Liabilities. She stated further that (Best of Judgement Assessment) for Skye Bank Plc Makurdi amount to N1, 000,000,000.00 only for the 2009 to 2014 tax years. Th at of Unity Bank stood at N105,414,544.37 only for the 2011 to 2015 tax years. Fidelity Bank on the other hand owes N113,959,114.33 only for the 2009 to 2014 tax years. After reconciliation, Zenith Bank has been found to be indebted to the tune of N213,957,338.94 only.
