CYC condemns terror attacks in Nigeria, others

The Commonwealth Youth Council ( CYC) has condemned the ongoing terrorist attacks in Nigeria and escalating violence in conflict affected countries even as it called for an immediate stop to it.

The CYC, which is the largest and most diverse youth-led organisation in the world, representing 1.2 billion young people, called upon governments to engage in meaningful dialogue to address these conflicts and develop solutions for global peace.

Registering his disappointment in a statement at the weekend, the CYC chairperson, Ahmed Adamu, condemned the escalating violence, the use and abuse of children and young people in conflicts.

According to him, such brutality is intolerable and called upon world leaders to act with urgency to respond to these conflicts, bringing the perpetrators to justice, and to end a culture of impunity and create a culture of peace and respect for human rights.

“Such acts of violence cannot, and must not, be tolerated. Such acts can only threaten global peace and stability.”
Adamu stressed that “terrorist attacks against young people and youth violence are unacceptable.”
CYC is of the strong conviction that there should be “no place for violence by any side” in resolving political differences and disputes.

The Council, therefore, called on all sides in conflict affected countries to cease violent attacks and engage in a “meaningful dialogue” aimed at ending the crisis and advancing human rights and the rule of law.
