Cultivate better working relations with people, police told

Speaker of the Niger state House of Assembly, Barrister Adamu Usman, has advised Divisional Police Officers in the state to cultivate a better working relationship with the people of their respective jurisdictions to ensure effective protection of lives and property.
He gave the advice yesterday when the retiring state Commissioner of Police, Mrs Diseye Desire Nsirim, paid him a farewell visit.

He said: “For effective policing of rural areas, there must be understanding and enhanced relationship between the police and the inhabitants as well as other security agencies.
“The task of protecting lives and property should not be left government alone; government needs to be supported by the citizens to achieve a crime free society.”
The speaker commended the outgoing commissioner of police for bringing to the barest minimum, crime rate in the state, saying that her stay in the state was fruitful and rewarding.
Earlier, the outgoing police boss thanked the state legislature for the support and cooperation given her and hoped that same would be extended to her successor.
