Covid-19: Monarch advises FG to re-enforce use of facemask, threatens aides


A traditional ruler in Osun State, Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale, has called on the federal government of Nigeria to quickly wake up to the newly reported cases of Covid-19 in the world. 


In a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday by his press secretary, Alli Ibraheem, the monarch expressed concern over increasing cases of Covid-19 in the world, saying the new outbreak call for global vigilance. 


Expressing concern over the influx of people into the country, Oluwo advised government at all levels to take precautionary measures against the pandemic. 


The monarch enjoined Nigerians to observe Covid-19 protocols by adhering to the use of protective items such as face mask, keeping of social distance and regular watching of hands.


He advised the federal government to empower Covid-19 task force with prosecuting power, saying the virus is real and hitting harder.


Oluwo has equally threatened to sack any of his staff seen either in the palace or any public place without facemask.


“I want to specially appeal and task the federal government of Nigeria to reintroduce enforcement of precautionary measures such as the use of facemask, keeping of social distance, regular watching of hands and others.


“I feared the influx of people into Nigeria. We can’t close border. For some moments, we need to learn to live with Covid-19. As such, a patriotic Nigerian must always wear facemask, keep social distance, watch hand and avoid gatherings of many people. 


“I read of two of our public officials going into isolation. This should tell us the 2nd phase of Covid-19 us still real. The best way to protect our country is to be vigilance in protecting ourselves against the virus.”


“The federal government should further empower the Covid-19 taskforce on power of prosecuting of its precautionary measures violators. 


“Equally, I enjoin Nigerians to Cooperate with the government because doing so will help safe our lives, protect our economy against further lockdown and presents Nigerians as law abiding citizens.”
