COVID-19: Delta monarch bans breaking of kolanuts

As part of efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus pandemic, the Asagba of Asaba, Obi, Professor Chike Edozien, has suspended the traditional breaking of kolanuts in his domain.

The royal father said the move became necessary because according to him, the exercise involved direct contacts as people were expected to dip hands into the same bowl of kolanuts.

Obi Edozie who is a professor of medicine cautioned that if strict precautions are not adhered to, “the pandemic could affect communities with dire consequences”.

He stated this when a deleg­ation from Delta sta­te Ministry of Health paid him a visit to intimate him their aware­ness campaign on the pandemic.

According to him, “it is very important that we follow the directions which ha­ve been given by the World Health Organ­ization (WHO) and the fede­ral government. If we fail to comply, the results will be 

hazardous.”

The traditional ruler who pointed out that neigbouring Edo state had confirmed a case of coronavirus directed “all community heads to spread the message of precautions to quarters, villages and clans.”
