Census: NPC trains Yobe Journalists on effective reportage

The National Population Commission has organized a one day state level capacity building workshop for Yobe journalists on effective reporting of the forthcoming 2023 population and housing census exercise.

Declaring the workshop opened on Tuesday at the NUJ press centre in Damaturu, the Federal Commissioner National Population Commission (NPC), Yobe State Office, Alhaji Mai Aliyu Muhammad, charged the journalists to present all the needed support for the success of the 2023 Census exercise in the state.

Muhammad stated that the workshop is part of the Commission’s preparation and series of programmes design to ensure that the 2023 census is conducted successfully.

He revealed that journalists have a role to play towards the success of the census exercise, hence the need for them to be committed before and during the exercise.

“AS we are approaching the actual Census, the Commission will require the Media to do more in enlightening the people.

“To the layman, the function of the media is just to inform, educate and entertain the public, but the media also perform many other important functions, one of which is the agenda setting.

Here the media shapes public opinion by giving more.

“This year’s census is different from the previous ones. The forthcoming census will be a Digital one .

” It will be done with modern equipment of technological advancement in line with the provisions of the United Nations”, he said.

He urged journalists to assist the commission in raising awareness among the people so that they will understand the importance and benefits attached to the census in the development of the state and the country at large.
